Responding to Hunger: A toolkit for Learning and action

Responding to hunger: a toolkit for learning and action - MULTIPLIER EVENT
Towards a strategy for implementing Human Right to Adequate Food in Portugal – A national debate based on the international experience
27th April | 2021 | 10h30 (CET time)
Access to adequate food is (should be) a right for everyone!
In a world, and at a time, when sustainability is a complex equation, the implementation of the right to food requires a progressive effort to articulate the various sectors and resources of the food system.
In Portugal, the ongoing process of designing a national food and nutritional security strategy is a crucial step towards building a more sustainable and healthy food system. We need, however, to ensure that the Human Right to Adequate Food and Nutrition (RtFN) is at the heart of this agenda.
At the present day, what does it mean to implement the right to adequate food in a European country like Portugal? What intervention mechanisms exist in the face of the current increase in food insecurity and food poverty in the country? What challenges must we face and what are the possible ways forward?
This debate needs to be held urgently in Portugal, with extensive societal participation, particularly, of people who find themselves in a situation of greater vulnerability and where their right to food is threatened. Considering the lessons learned at the international level, this event aims to contribute towards the empowerment of actors involved in the implementation of the RtFN in Portugal and generate a broad debate that cannot wait for another crisis. This is the moment!
